Join Imagine Your World (www.imagine-your-world.com) for a 4-day MasterClass workshop geared towards intermediate to advanced photographers in Austria’s Salzkammergut. The class will offer many opportunities to shoot breathtaking landscapes, wildlife, and macro images. Picturesque tows, untamed rivers, wild mountains, and deep lakes wait to be discovered. Our goal is to provide ample opportunities to shoot sunrises and sunsets in challenging lighting conditions, apply graduate, polarizing and 10 stop neutral density filters. We will use bracketing to capture images for later HDR processing. Guidance and hands-on instructions will be available throughout the workshop.
Austria’s Salzkammergut is a resort area stretching from the city of Salzburg eastwards to the peaks of the Dachstein Mountains. The Salzkammergut is not only known for numerous glacial lakes and towering mountain slopes, but culinary specialties such as Kaiserschmarrn and Krapfen.
Surrounded by mountains is the secluded Schwarzensee, a true photographer’s paradise. Occasionally, fog rises from the clear water just after sunrise or sunset. Since the lake is up to 67 meters deep, the water remains refreshingly cool all year long. Just to the north is Lake Attersee, the largest lake of the Salzkammergut area of Austria. It extends for about 20 kilometers from north to south and about 4 kilometers from east to west. The mountains of hell rise to heights of up to 1,800 meters from the southeastern shores of the lake.
This workshop will begin in Strobl, a small tourist town situated on the shores of Lake Wolfgang, one of the best known lakes in the area. Stretching about 10 kilometers, the Wolfgangsee is surrounded by several mountain ranges, most notably the 1783 meter high Schafberg. A rustic restaurant occupies part of its peak, offering breathtaking panoramic views in most directions.
Photographers will capture many of the area’s features at the best times of day and practice many hours in the field. When conditions are less perfect, we will discuss post-processing and new techniques to get the most out of RAW files using modern image processing software such as Adobe Lightroom, Photoshop, and Plug-ins such as Nik Software. This experience is truly not to be missed!
The following topics will be covered during this 5 days hands-on workshop:
You will need a DSLR camera with a set of lenses from wide angel to macro to telephoto to get the most out of this workshop. Night photography requires a fast (f1.8 or better) lens. A good tripod and a remote shutter release are must-have accessories. A head lamp (or at least a small, powerful flashlight) and a backpack are highly recommended.
Getting to the best spot will often take some hiking. You should be comfortable walking for prolonged periods of time with your photo gear, water and food on cobble stone streets and nature trails over the course of the day, occasionally with some elevation gains or drops. You will enjoy the tour best if you bring well fitted, broken in shoes and clothing that can protect you and your gear from the elements. Some energy bars and water will help you to get through the day.
